7. P. ¿Cuál era vuestro oficio allí? R. Yo era el Scaliger o portador de la escalera en las obras.

Makings.
En
ningún catecismo se menciona semejante oficio de portador de escaleras.
La palabra Scaliger parece derivarse del latin scalae ( estoy en deuda con Wallace Mc leod por esta observación).
Las Constituciones de Anderson de 1738 incluyen
“ The Swordbearer´s song” ( la
canción del portador de la espada), con lo que Ladder Bearer o portador de la
escalera estaría fuera de lugar aunque apareciese en otra parte, como en el
grabado de Hoggarth de 1742 pintando “ Los
Misterios de la masonería traídos a la luz por los Gorgomons” que muestra
un desafortunado candidato con su cabeza entre dos escalones.

otros. Cuarto: Responder a todos los signos y toques y Quinto: Guardar todos los secretos y ser feliz
y sabio.

Los catecismos son consistentes
en que los masones tienen cinco “ puntos”
o “puntos de compañerismo”, y las
preguntas ocho y nueve parecen referirse a los cinco deberes de un masón.
Esos deberes o compromisos
coinciden en general con los “ Antiguos Cargos”
y otras listas de los deberes de masones y son admirables virtudes cívicas.
Correcta, Consistente y Positiva.

pecho, mejilla a mejilla y mano a espalda , esos cinco puntos se referencian a
los cinco signos principales que son cabeza, pie , cuerpo y corazón y también a
los cinco puntos de la arquitectura y a los cinco ordenes de masonería, que
toman su fortaleza de los cinco primitivos, uno divino y cuatro temporarios que
son como sigue: primero Cristo el jefe y piedra angular, segundo Pedro llamado
Cefas, tercero Moisés quien produjo los mandamientos, cuarto Besaliel el mejor
de los masones y quinto Hiram que estaba lleno de sabiduría y conocimiento.
